Mama Birder

My Baby Bird Is 3 Today

How has it been 3 years already?

Today is my sweet baby bird’s 3rd birthday and I honestly can’t think about that without bursting into tears. It’s wild to think that 3 years ago I was trying to figure out how this 10lb butterball was going to vacate my body (it took a lot of work let me tell you) but then he was here and he was perfect. 3 is an age best described as a “wild rumpus” I don’t think I have ever been so challenged, so tired, or so desperately in awe at how fast our children become little people with big feelings and big hearts.

It was trying to find myself as a new mother that brought me to birding and opened my life up to a whole new world of wonderful people and such beautiful birds so in some ways I will be grateful to Alec in ways he will never understand. But that’s ok, that’s not his job. His job is to be the wildly wonderfully wacky boy who challenges me everyday and would rather shoot a ball in a hoop rather than go birding (but a birding mom will have to keep trying right?).

I love you Alec Orion. You are my sun and moon. Happy 3rd birthday.
