Building future birders one bird at a time
Hi, I’m Danie Hermes avid bird fan and sometimes halfway decent avian photographer. I am a devoted science communicator committed to extolling the virtues of leave no trace engagement with the outdoors and making birding accessible to families of all ages and abilities. I also very passionately enjoy reviewing science and nature books as they hit the market and recommending what could be your next life changing read.
I am also the mother of one very energetic son (hence the Mama part of Mama Birder) and it was motherhood and a desire to see my son connect with nature in a meaningful way that brought me to birding. Now I am now obsessed and hope that you join me on this journey of becoming a better and more mindful birder.
Birding and outdoor education is one of my main passions. In my blog For The Birds I tackle many topics like birding etiquette, how to get children to engage with the outdoors, and fun spots to visit. I also review nature and outdoor books.
Sharing the joy of birds with younger birders is one my greatest joys
I am currently developing out kid friendly educational materials to help introduce younger birders to the joys of birdwatching, being in natures, and starting their own life lists.
