Hi, I'm Danie Hermes avid bird fan and sometimes halfway decent avian photographer. I am a devoted science communicator committed to extolling the virtues of leave no trace engagement with the outdoors and making birding accessible to families of all ages and abilities. I also very passionately enjoy reviewing science and nature books as they hit the market and recommending what could be your next life changing read.

I am also the mother of one very energetic son (hence the Mama part of Mama Birder) and it was motherhood and a desire to see my son connect with nature in a meaningful way that brought me to birding. Now I am now obsessed and hope that you join me on this journey of becoming a better and more mindful birder.
